Cessna172 formulated on Tuesday :
I do find that very hard to believe.
I would make the following guesses based upon what I see on the road:-
buttume that a signal is required, after all I am there and generally car-white van manetc (Exclude HGV's).....
1. Roundabouts - About 90% omit the first signal (right, if two are needed). About 60% miss the second signal (left).
2. On the motorway - About 60% omit to give any signals at all, either pulling out, pulling in, or turning on off the motorway.
3. Waiting to turn from a minor road, onto a major road - 40% give no signal.
So, are you suggesting that your 'buttociates' are part of the small percentage who *do* bother to give signals?
Must have been my imagination thenTook some piccies today. I must apologise for all my completely unfounded comments re- HGVs not tailgating and the unfair "car drivers can't use lane discipline...
What I would find more believable is that your buttociates *expected* that you wanted a signal every time and tried to make sure they gave one.
Had you asked me on an observed drive why I was signalling to nobody, then my answer would be that I *always* signal irrespective of any perceived need to do so. One day my perception-observation might just fail me and my 'signal to no one' might just avoid an accident.
I aim to always be fully aware of what is around me at *all* times, yet despite this I still consciously though automatically signal every time, even when there is absolutely no one around to see it.
