Out of interest, did you signal because you were changing lanes or simply because you were pbutting him? From your description of the road it was a single lane so I don't think you were changing lanes. Later on you mention that he pbutted you without indicating.

The reason I ask is that when I took driving lessons driving test in 1996 I was taught to position myself correctly and signal when pbutting a vehicle in that kind of situation - for example a cyclist or a parked car. That was the correct thing to do.

However fast forward to last year when I took lessons pbutted test and indicating is a no-no. The DSA now prefer people not to signal in that kind of situation and deal with it using correct positioning in good time.

Obviously if you're changing lanes as part of the overtake then you must indicate to change lanes.

I still see loads of drivers signal to move out to pbutt parked vehicles, cyclists, etc, and I'm guessing they've been driving for years. Certainly I pbutted my test without indicating in those situations, and it was fine.

Just curious what others think.
