That's the thing though, it defaults to "fine".
I sent off my Sorn like a good citizen and heard nothing back. Being the sort of proactive cynic that I am, after a week or so I emailed them to say I'd sent the form off and heard nothing back, and when they ignored that I started adding reminders on a daily basis until someone replied and said they'd put the Sorn onto the computer.
Point being it seems like the Sorn declarations are more often than not being "lost" and once you send it off, you've not got that form to send off a second one. But, you can email them and get some human to tell you it's done and that's legally covering yer butt.
On that front, I will from now on get someone in DVLA to email me positively to confirm a Sorn is active rather than relying the posties, who seem to lose about 5% of the post around here and who's record is three months to deliver something which I'd buttumed was delivered.
SORN scam 867Forgot to say, when they closed the PO they took away the postbox (It was built into in the wall of the erstwhile PO). They say they can't replace it with a postbox on...
And that's the advice I'd give anyone else, don't trust them to do it, make them tell you they have done it. If not, welcome to the "statutory fine" club, aimed at legitimate citizens rather than the villains (who continue unaffected.)
