I first posted this story several years ago:
I was driving on a narrow, winding road through a residential area in Bedford, Mbuttachusetts when I came upon a long line of cars following a garbage truck.
Mbuttachusetts drivers don't let something as trivial as a 20 ton truck get in their way. Next time it stopped, three cars in the middle of the pack decided they would be better off in the left lane. They were right. They crossed the double yellow line and pbutted the truck. Although there was traffic in the other direction, a pair of SUVs beats a compact car. The unfortunate driver who believed in "keep right" ended up off the road watching them pbutt.
The truck crept foward at 10 MPH to the next house. This time someone near the back of the line decided he had had enough. He pulled into a driveway on the left side of the road about 30 feet in front of him. I thought he was going to turn around, but after stopping a moment he drove down the sidewalk, around a telephone pole, and dropped off the curb and onto the road. He returned to the sidewalk for a while to let traffic pbutt, then went back into the left lane. At this point another car also tired of waiting and pulled into the left lane. Apparently he didn't check his rear and almost hit the first car. The first car swerved quicly left and back right around a telephone pole and ended up in front of the car that cut him off. Along they went, past the garbage truck and almost into a car coming the other way.
Usually bad drivers annoy me, but I was laughing.
Always remember to check your mirrors before making an illegal lane change.
