SUVs are not the whole problem but they are a symbol of public apathy toward nature. The idea that most people know what's good for them long-term is mistaken. This whole petroleum thing is a temporary experiment but people think it comes with an indemnity contract. The probable cause of global warming is well documented, at least if you're seeking knowledge rather than a lifestyle vindication. Remember when the Far Right was denying the very existence of warming? Now they're just denying human causation. Conservatives by definition are slow to accept new information.
SUVs now killing polar bears too 3372Gazoo There we have an intellectual giant's prelude to the following comments... Oversimplification may be easy but it keeps you ignorant. Weather prediction is actually quite good these days considering...
You can search the Web and find thousands of articles on CO2 accumulation, the volume of carbon emitted from various vehicles, plus global ice pack, permafrost and glacier data. It all points to human influence on the atmosphere, and what's so surprising about that with 6.4 billion of us? Whether or not you read that data instead of skipping to a right-wing rumor mill is your choice. Just be aware that Rush Limbaugh hasn't spent a single day doing climate research and he doesn't quote real climatologists. He has become an ersatz "science" authority only because ignorant people choose to stay that way.
There was a law pbutted in 1987 that repealed the "Fairness Doctrine" and absolved radio stations from broadcasting opposing views. It effectively launched Limbaugh's career and he's been happily dis-educating the public ever since. I think we'd have a smarter populace if that law hadn't gone through. Too many people have become addicted to quick, easy and ultimately false information.

If any other species behaved like Man we'd call it a plague.
