Sat Nav

A few years ago, I was in America. I hired a car with Magellan(?) satellite navigation. The satnav unit was also pre-installed with the "AAA" book - the American version of yellow pages.

I was out one day and decided I wanted something to eat. I wanted a bagette from Subway.

I went into their version of yellow pages, selected restaurants and typed in Subway. The system came up with several different locations. One was 4 miles away, another was 7 miles.

I selected the one that was 4 miles away and started driving, following the audio directions. The system took me off the main road and into a residential area. Eventually it told me to turn right and into a residential cul-de-sac. The name of the road tallied with the map on the satnav screen.

Well here are the results, and they are fairly predictable: Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 Request for information Your request has been considered and...

As I got to the end of the road, the unit informed me that my destination was on the right. It then told me "you have arrived".

The unit hadn't directed me to "Subway". The poor thing was confused. Instead it had taken me to an electrical sub-station.
