I'm idly reading through The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts) (Amendment) Regulations 2006, as you do. Can anyone confirm that I've read the exemption properly in the specific case below. There are actually 3 different cars, with different problems.
Child A is a six month old using an approved car seat Child B is a two year old using an approved car seat Child C is an eight year old 133cm (2cm short of 135cm!) using an adult seat belt NOT a booster.
Case 1: Conventional 5 seat car layout, 3 point seatbelts on every seat. Back seat holds A,B,C Front pbuttenger seat empty Legal? I believe so, even if C takes the front pbuttenger seat
Case 2: 7 seat layout with Case 1, plus 2 fold away seats with 3 point sealtbelts Middle seat holds A,B,C Front pbuttenger seat empty Rear row folded away to provide boot space Legal? I hope so, but not sure if it is required that the additional row is used, with booster required, also compromising boot space
Case 3 4 seat layout, 2+2, 3 point seatbelts on every seat Front pbuttenger seat holds C Rear seat holds A,B Legal? I believe so, as the 2 rear pbuttengers do prevent use of the rear and no front booster is available.
Not that I'm trying to avoid buying a booster seat when there is only 2cm of height left to go!
