Should "I fell asleep at the wheel" be an acceptable excuse for killing someone 3102

People get tired at unexpected times, including while driving.

Not driving is often not an option. You're 75 miles from home and you get tired. If you have a newborn baby, you're always tired. Ur kid gets stuck in a snowdrift on the way back from some late-nite endeaor and you're out there 'til 2 AM digging and pulling his vehicle out with your vehicle, but you still have to go to work in 4 hours. 1000's of reasons. People not driving just because they're tired would create more mischief than driving tired does. Pull over into a rest area? Maybe get shot dead while sleeping like Michael Jordan's father was.

Caffiene dosen't always work, either. Use it enough, and you build up a tolerance so nothing significant happens when you take it. I use no-doz instead of coffee - I can have those along, as well as a bottle of water, but I got to where if I took 2, it was almost ineffective, and 3 made me sick. Sometimes I took 3 anyway, as I'd rather be sick than falling asleep while driving, but its caffeine is not a panacea. The other stuff, Vivarin, doesn't seem to affect me at all - I never got any good from it.

As I said - if we want to solve this problem, we're going to need self-driving cars. People are going to be tired with no optiopn but to contiue driving. That's just the way it is.
