Thanks out to Daniel SternEarlier this week I got the 7440A (amber) bulbs and Narva Range Power 50 H1 I ordered from him last week. I installed the headlamps last night. I haven't tried out the amber bulbs, but...
Look at the CAFE numbers. Greater mileage in the city than on the highway? This is backward. There is less resistance at city driving speeds than highway speeds.
Why is highway mileage better? Because there are fewer stops and fewer acceleration cycles. Why do hybrids get better city mileage? Because they operate the internal combustion engine at its sweet spot of brake specific fuel consumption. Acceleration is provided by an electric motor. Electric motors are much better than internal combustion engines for speed changes.
Why so much effort on changing the vehicle to improve acceleration mileage? Why so little education for drivers? Why so little effort on reducing the number of stops on surface streets?
Why so much emphasis on speed and so little emphasis on reducing time spent not even moving?
Nobody cares about apathy. Besides who would buy a newspaper or watch television if the story was "John Lansford installs roundabout, delay time drops 45%, gas mileage improves by 30%"?
Compare a roundabout story to a gory crash that is teased all day for "news at eleven".
Sacrifice? How about some decent road engineering? The sacrifice might be to replace the politician that promises pie in the sky next year with a PTOE that can produce results this afternoon. What would we have to complain about if traffic problems were solved?
