In Richmond, North Yorks yesterday. Unfamiliar to the area and realised I was going the wrong way. I pulled off the main road into a side road, looking for a suitable place to turn around and found a nice junction where I could perform a reverse round a corner.
Started the manoeuvre text book style using full observations. As my view of the side road improve as I reversed, I saw a car approach the junction so I stopped about 6-8ft short of where I wanted. This other car also stopped about 2 car lengths back and I buttumed she was allowing me to complete my manoeuvre.
Gave her a quick wave of the hand to say thanks and continued reversing* (only another couple of feet so as to get out of her way as quick as possible) ....at which point she started beeping her horn incessantly!!! So the politeness from me ended up with me giving her the middle finger salute as I finished my turn and pulled away.
I was thinking though as I continued my journey that maybe I should have stopped the car, got out and asked her what, exactly did she think I was doing wrong - only problem being that if I had done that she'd have probably been on her mobile dialling 999 as I asked her to wind her window down!!
*I know the rules say you should go forward back to your starting position in a test, but who's going to do that in the real world when you're so close to finishing your turn?
