They don't learn 3533It's hazarous to drive, period. You can't justify not pulling over because it's hazardous. There's a few drivers in r.a.d. who seem to equate knowing how to steer...

If you think about it, that's proof right there that PSA's *do* work - before the whole 55 = safer campaign nobody really took seriously the idea that lower speed limits could save lives. They really don't, of course, but thanks to the NHTSA's media blitz, a lot of people honestly believe that they do.
The more I think about it the more I think that useful PSAs are almost a must. The lack of driving skill, at least in my area, is literally so bad that I'm surprised that we haven't had a whole-city gridlock event yet. We've come close, like the day that yahoo decided he was going to jump off the Wilson Bridge... basically anything that disrupts traffic has effects that are felt miles away due to volume, and disruptions in traffic occur almost constantly because people are such farking bad drivers.
Maybe the NMA should get involved? Film some educational PSAs and then make them available to any TV station that wants to run them for free? They should love that, they wouldn't have to do any work at all to fulfill their PSA requirements. Heck, if they were going to be filmed in the DC area I'd be happy to volunteer what services I could (which would be pretty much limited to driving a car, I guess, since I have no video equipment or experience. I could lend a few Studebakers as well, which might actually be a good idea as then the project wouldn't pee off any current mfgrs. of automobiles - anyone got an old AMC or two?) Maybe they wouldn't even have to be filmed; someone good with computer graphics (NOT CT PLEASE) could probably come up with some animations to demonstrate some basic concepts.
what do you think, 30 second spots on:
1) the right way to deal with a 4-way stop 2) the right way to merge onto a freeway 3) keep right except to pbutt makes life easier for everyone 4) a nonfunctional or malfunctioning traffic light is a 4-way stop 5) basic skid recovery and panic braking technique
I seriously think that this is a good idea. Any media types know what the criteria are for a spot to be considered a legit PSA for FCC purposes? Anyone else want to see if we can get someone to pick this up and run with it? Any other spot ideas?
