much like they were saying :
No, you've given two price guide examples.
Lovely, an' everything.
Now - about the options.
Let's look at Parkers for the options and spec, shall we?
Stereo, perhaps? 6CD changer standard in the VW, radio-casette in the Audi. Nice. I remember casettes. Vaguely. £500 from Audi. Nobody's going to buy either of those in a solid colour - so add the £430 for metallic (no cost on the Pbuttat) to the Audi. Who the hell wants to manually wind the rear windows? Better shell out that £300 for the Audi, then. Be nice if it had leather, wouldn't it? £500 when it was new in the VW, £1200+ in the Audi. Sunroof? £500 in the VW, £1k in the Audi. Cold day? Still, the VW's heated mirrors will be fine. £250 on the Audi? But at least you'll know how cold it is in the VW - but not if the Audi's original owner didn't spend the £300 on the Information Centre. Cruise? £200 VW, £400 Audi.
So - balance the specs out a bit and add a few toys that'll really help the ease of resale, and the VW's original price has crept up £1200 from the sub £20k list. The Audi's now damn near £25k, though.
I wonder if that difference'll reflect in the used market...?
Of course it won't.
But the original owner of the Audi has paid a pooload more in CoCar tax. Or depreciation...
