Cue the Jokes... 326Silk Well I do do it, and it's still no problem. There is probably some truth...
whilst frantically jabbing the keyboard with one finger in order to give us the following:
Yes - that's when we moved on to talking about residual value. I never initially argued that Audis and VW's were the same purchase price, it's just that they appeared similar on Parkers. Let me remind you of the post shall I :-
Let's look at the two similar spec cars (see below). One is an A4, the other a Pbuttat.
The Pbuttat, a nice 2.3 litre V5 is £19555 and in a private sale approx 3 years later expects to sell for £8560 in a private sale in good condition.
The Audi a similar spec 2.4 V6 is £2068 plus 10 new and oh look, it expects to fetch £11470 in the same 'private good' sale.
Volkswagen Pbuttat Saloon 2.3 V5 4d 2003-03 Insurance Group 16 Average mileage: 20,000 miles Cost New ('03) £ 19555 Franchised Dealer £ 9600 Independent Dealer £ 9200 Private Good £ 8560 Private Poor £ 7120 Part Exchange £ 8080

I should have known an Alfa enthusiast cannot be expected to have considered the residual value of a motor vehicle, in the toal cost of ownership.
Maybe, just maybe there are reasons other than 'badge snobbery' for buying Audi's over VW's?
So who is it again that's talking to themselves?
