So its true about BMW drivers! 325

Silk Well I do do it, and it's still no problem. There is probably some truth in that although the risk is so small I'm not inclined to worry...

Many more than 5% in my experience. As I said, it depends where you live. I live somewhere that normally gets several weeks of snow covering every year, and for some of that time the main roads are also covered. I was very surprised to have been in cars with total non-petrol-heads during this time and heard them comment like "it is a bit tricky to have RWD in these conditions".

MrBitsy Don't drag Harry into this - he makes some perfectly sensible contributions here, as do most people, thankfully. If you are in a situation where there is some risk of being hit...

Well a very high proportion of people drive BMW and Mercedes here (something to do with it being Germany, living in an expensive city, and the factories are just round the corner). Put that together with the amount of snow we have in winter and many "normal" people know the d’fference.

For "normal" driving, sure there isn't much difference. But in snow you are far more likely to get near or past the limits of your car, then the differences become important, whether you are planning to do this or not. There *is* a big difference to how they behave, whether one is better or not is up for discussion. So long as you know what to expect from your car it shouldn't be a problem.
