Of course it will feel really hard to you - you need guidance to put it into practice. If we just consider roundabouts...

means

I almost always get to a hazard at a safe speed, but from my understanding I think you're saying that I should arrive at that speed sooner with time to change gear. What I found when I was trying this is that I needed to slow up earlier than usual, which is actually REALLY hard. This method is definately slower, no doubt about it.

With a junction for example you wouldn't accelerate until you were on your way out of it. So once you slow to say 20mph you'd maintain that through the bend. If you reach 20mph 2 seconds sooner, then you'll be a bit slower. I can't see why you'd go any faster through the hazard with slowing earlier. In a few situations you might, but in 99% of cases you won't.

I never come to a stop when the roads are clear. My deceleration is very gentle, and my speed will always be safe. For a hazard such as a bend, I will always choose an appropriate speed, this technique wouldn't actually effect the speed at which I negotiate hazards.

It does say in the pbutt your advanced... (what ever it is) that you can use the clutch for breif moments, but is that only on relatively level roads?

Also if you are coming to a stop at red lights, and they change what would you do? You'll stop it completely with the foot brake, put the handbrake on, and then change into first. Otherwise, you could put it in 1st, and go! This is where the separating appears to be slower.
