I do agree with all of that, and have witnessed these happen. Overlapping the braking and gears doesn't eally effect this though. I don't usually make any of these mistakes (in my opinion).

Yeap, I've seen it, but don't do it myself. By the time I turn the wheel I will be in an appropriate gear, and have my foot on the gas pedal to maintain the speed.

Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated. The biggest problem I found today is that if the circumstances change, then I end up braking while changing gear. I needed to choose a speed earlier before the hazard to give extra time for the gear change, but the views usually get better as you get closer to the hazards, so my choice of speed-gear may not be as good. A lot of road space is actually covered in the time it takes to change gear. I think I may need to abandon this technique for now. Even when I do what I consider to be correct it doesn't feel right.
