OK - you did ask
On my way to a committee meeting of the AJS & Matchless OC near Oxford on said R90-6 during the blanket 50 limit - 76 I think. Pbutted an MGB V8 GT towards the end of a stretch of dual carriageway at errmm - well more than 50.
Checking my mirrors I see the MG has tagged on behind me. Clear road, fine and dry so I up the ante a bit. MGB still with me. Wisely knock it off a lot as we pbutt a couple of junctions then wind her up pretty well again to find the MGB still in touch.
Time to turn off the A road down a lane leading to the pub where the meeting is. Signal and position way, way in advance in case he decides to blast past just at the wrong moment. The MGB turns with me and starts to overtake. Cheeky git thinks I and proves categorically that shaft drive bikes can wheelie (being two up helps though). At this point a nee-nah, nee-nah refrain and a blue flashing light in the back window betray the car's real credentials.
I stop, The first words of the officer as he puts his cap on and comes up to me are "goes well doesn't it". 102 mph to be precise is what he put on the ticket. To my eternal grabreastude he also said "I could report you for speed dangerous to the public but you are obviously an experienced motorcyclist and were in control of the machine". He then says how their lot are going to get 900 beemers as patrol bikes and has been suitable impressed.
Thought it best to make a personal appearance at Banbury Magistrates' court in best suit. Got up to say my bit and how remorseful I was etc. At this point the prosecuting solicitor popped up. Oh poo - he is going to tell them about the wheelie ! No - he informs them that the police report says what they said to me. Outcome points and a £40 fine - same as the case before mine when someone had pleaded guilty by letter to 65.
Bet he wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't taken the trouble to turn up.
