I had to get a puncture fixed today - huge thorn in the tyre, four inches long and as hard as steel. While I waited, the garage gave me a
That quoted the accident figures as 9 end, about 200 seriously injured and 600 "mild" injuries over a three year period.
It sounds like the scamera partnership are being economical with the truth.
Also I had to drive that way on Thursday, the following became obvious:
The M4 is now much more dangerous than it used to be. Several idiots were stamping on their brakes every time they pbutted under a bridge. I was cruising at a comfortable 70mph (75 indicated) and the bloke in front of me got spooked by a car parked on an overbridge - between Chievely and Hungerford so in the wrong place - and he slammed on the brakes and slowed down to under 50mph. Not the only one doing it.
There are extra patrols as well as cameras. One car screamed past me just after Membury services, I estimate it was doing about 95-100 mph. He presumably had read the reports and was intending to slow down as he got closer to Hungerford. He was actually nabbed by a WPC in an unmarked grey Vectra. I actually approve of this, I haven't seen a police vehicle in the Wiltshire section, ever. They are relatively common on the Thames Valley section east of Membury.
