Speed Humps "Save Lives". Allegedly. 5235Absolutely not! You have swallowed the oversimplistic government propaganda (aka "lies"). Accident statistics show that the safest speed at which to travel is the 85th percentile...
I care becuase it inconveniences the emergency services. If spped humps meant that a memeber of your familiy dies becuase an ambulance can't get to them in time, or if your house burns down because the fire engine is held up by speed bumps, you would have a right to be upset.
Yes, there are prats who drive inconsiderately, there are boy racers who drive around at night at high speeds in stolen cars, but they are in the minority. Most drivers prefer not to be involved in accidents, and drive accordingly. Why should tyhey be penalised, and risk having their cars damaged because of an irresponsible minority?
You may avoisd immediate damage, most do, by driving over speed bumps at an appropriate speed. But long term damage to suspension components is also possible by repeated driving over these bumps even at walking pace. And as I have said before, if the bumps need to be driven over at walking pase, the speed limit should reflect this too. Speed limits are supposed to indicate the maximum safe speed for a road. Where there are speed bumps, many speed limits are set too high.
