Speed Humps "Save Lives". Allegedly. 5235

Absolutely not! You have swallowed the oversimplistic government propaganda (aka "lies"). Accident statistics show that the safest speed at which to travel is the 85th percentile. Forcing slower travel than that increases danger.

Reducing the 85th percentile speed by placing obstructions in the road does nothing for safety, since driver will continue to drive at the same level of perceived risk. Its only effect is to reduce traffic flow, increase pollution, congestion and driver anger.

The probability of crashing is in no way directly proportional to speed. That only affects the severity of the consequences.

Never end a pedestrian in my life, or anyone else come to that. 30 year accident and conviction free record.

True! A better way that would not hold up emergency vehicles would be police on the...

The problem is NOT SPEED. It is incompetent driving. Choosing the wrong speed for the prevailing conditions may be one form of incompetent driving. Driving too slowly is every bit as dangerous as driving too fast. The secret is to do neither, but in our congested cities, with our government's huge underinvestmment in road improvements, maximising traffic flow should be a priority.

Without speed bumps that could be 50 mph with some in narrow urban roads. And I live just next...

Spending taxpayers money to REDUCE traffic flow makes my blood boil, for both reasons.

BTW I had never seen a head-on smash on a road near me until they installed the chicanes. Now there are several every month.
