Here's an interesting recent story, that has happened to an old friend of mine. I'll try to be brief.
1. On a motorbike, which I believe was fairly powerful 2. 30mph along a wide NSL road where 60mph is safe. 3. Cars were overtaking because he was so slow 4. Another bike comes out of a junction, from the other side of the road 5. The bikes collide 6. Almost dead (severe brain damage)
This is a scarey story, especially at these slow speeds. I believe both bikes were doing approx 30mph at the moment of impact. However I still find it hard to believe that he didn't react in any way. On the particular road there is plenty of room, enough for three cars, so even in a car it would probably be easy to miss the bike pulling out.
The police insist that he wasn't at fault (from the skid marks), but I think they are wrong to say that, and should question why he didn't react. The other biker possibly made a genuine mistake by not seeing it, and the slow speed could have been partly to blame. In my opinion, these mistakes can be easy to make.
Speeding is dangerous. 1609I am saying that he was allowing the candidate to use their judgement as to whether momentarily exceeding the speed limit in the interests of safety is preferable to being a blindly obedient unthinking...
The person who pulled out tells a different story to the skid marks. I do feel sorry for the other biker too because mistakes can be very easy to make, but shouldn't result in accidents like this.
