Brimstone Brimstone As far as parking is concerned, parking restrictions will simply be extended until people get forced to take chances and get caught. There is no way that the authorities are going to give up! Give up what? Screwing the motorist for every penny they can get. If that were true motoring would have got more expensive as time has gone on.
It has.
It hasn't, it has become cheaper.
Ah, I presume you must be using the false 'relatively speaking' argument.
What percentage of total taxation did indirect motoring taxes make up fifty years ago, compared to today? I don't know the figures but I very much doubt that it was higher then. The motorist, or more precisely the vehicle user, is nothing more than a cash cow and always will be.
Speeding, parking and other fines are purely voluntary contributions to the exchequer.
You appear to be missing the point, which was if everyone kept to the limit, the limit would then be reduced to *maintain the income stream*. Or do you think the hundreds of millions of pounds raised in fines would not be missed?
