Speed camera convictions drive the number sentenced in court to record 1421

No you don't.

Please tell me just what you think somebody driving over a period of 10-12 yeas has to do with being caught 4 times in three years.

True. I wasn't thinking about truvelos.

Not in South Wales, IME. Nor in Kent. Those being the two areas I have done most of my non-motorway driving over the last few years.

Almost certainly FUD.

They are normally set for under 200m.

I can believe that some of the hand held laser operators might try it at that distance, but the vans use cameras that are set up to clock those in a fixed area, just like the Gatsos and Truvelos.

They use a longer range, but not *that* much longer, normally.

Pretty strong, yes. Obviously rather better than yours, since you don't see the ones where it isn't safe to speed.

And it is simple *fact* that you are wrong.

A lot of cameras I have seen are in places where speeding is definitely NOT safe. Probably more so with the mobile units than fixed, but a fair number of those too.

Enough that to suggest they are "normally only ever sited at places where it's safe to exceed the posted limit" is simply wrong.

No, I don't think so. They're on a mounting but they're aimed by hand like a gun. There's a sight built into the unit as well as a TV system. I think that's...

And your point?

I know all that.

And as I said, quite a few are placed in places where it is perfectly safe to speed, so anecdotal evidence that some are doesn't prove anything.

That one I didn't know.

But I am pretty sure that doesn't apply to mobile sites.

Think about for a minute :-)

While overall, the 85th percentile are the safest drivers, if there have been several speed related accidents there recently, it implies that for some reason the safest speed is hard to judge there, and people think it is safe to exceed the speed limit when it isn't.

Now I fully accept that I have made a big buttumption there, because as you say, the accidents need not have been speed related at all. But my scenario is undoubtedly *sometimes* true.

I do believe that the majority of speed cameras are badly placed, don't get me wrong.

But I think you are rather over stating the case. -- Alex Heney, Global Villager I am in total control, but don't tell my wife. To reply by email, my address is alexATheneyDOTplusDOTcom
