Uno Hoo!
The second one seems not always to be obeyed (despite claims to the contrary). And even more annoying is that speed cameras are *not* put onto serious accident black spots in North Yorkshire.
And I think there is a real case for using speed cameras to protect dangerous junctions where excessive speed is a problem (and also to prevent red light running).
Some places are by construction more dangerous than others. For example the first busy central reservation gap after nearly 20 miles of motorway clbutt graded junction dual carriageway is always going to be very hazardous. Mainline traffic drives the A19(T) like it is on a motorway.
Our local junction was exactly that type. Visibility was very good, but still people got wiped out on it with monotonous regularity. Speed measurments showed that the overall mainline vehicle speeds across the junction were 85%ile of 83mph with L2 at 90+mph. Hardly surprising then that some inexperienced drivers misjudged inbound speeds.
Having closed that gap the crashes now occur on the next gap 2 miles down the road. So far no-one has been end there but with a hefty crash per month it will not be long before there is...
