Speed limits to be reviewed

Adrian

I don't think that is what they plan at all. My contact said they intend to make *all* unclbuttified rural roads 40mph maximum speed limit (and many twisty A & B roads too). Safety first at any cost...

This is clearly ludicrous because although some parts have blind bends fit only for 10mph others have near perfect visibility and almost no traffic.

The only people I know who are pleased by this news are geriatric owners of motorhomes and rovers. Who already do 40mph everywhere.

The A67 has sprouted a morons beware speed warning device set at 40 for W bound on a fairly tight bend (still easy at NSL in the dry). It causes some of the dozier fast drivers to panic brake at the point on the bend where if they were going too fast for the conditions they would lose it completely. Apart from the risk of hitting an oncomiing car the straight line exit is a flat field. I reckon they should be left to get on with it and then charged with DWDCAA and for being towed back to the main road.

Putting moron signs up for every possible hazard like in America where the speed limit changes every hundred yards in some places is a waste of space and a distraction. If you treat drivers like complete idiots they will drive without thinking at all: "I was doing what it said on the number on a stick so it can't be my fault."
