Hello, Statistics can say anything you want them to depending on how the question is presented and who it is presented to, also how the answers are compiled, the words and terminology used. Drivers can't have any excuse for exceeding the speed limit, most know exactly what the speed limits are on different roads. If there was no indication then all drivers caught could go to court and have their day. By me there is a main road which is a 30mph limit, it is clearly stated along the road, painted on it and has big signs with "SLOW - SCHOOL" and "POLICE SPEED CHECK AREA". I stood watching the mobile speed trap one morning as people were going along the road at 40, 50 and 60mph. All braked when they spotted the police, so it proves they KNEW the speed limit and CHOSE to ignore it. They are the idiot drivers that moan when they are caught, even though they were warned and knew exactly what the speed limit was. If they were unable to take in the information due to being a bit slow then they shouldn't be in a car. If they knew what the speed limit was and displayed a disregard for other road user and drove dangerously or without care then they are not fit to drive as they have a lack of awareness and concentration. So it's simple really, if you break the speed limit and want to take the risk of being caught - stop moaning if you are. The argument here seems to be why should people be fined and-or prosecuted if caught for breaking a law they knew was in existance. It's a good job the idiot speeding drivers don't apply the same thought to every Law. Imagine that.
