WEST CHICAGO ÷ Police said Monday a speeding Ferrari caused the accident that end three people earlier this month.
Police still do not know if the driver was drunk.
At about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10, Matthew A. Lane, 27, of Wheaton, was driving his 1995 Ferrari east on Fabyan Parkway just south of Route 38, police said.
Excessive speed caused Lane to loose control of the car, crossed the median, and struck a 1991 Toyota Corolla, and then a 2001 Ford Explorer.
The car was found split in half and on fire after the crash, police said.
Lane was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nicole M. Westerhoff, 23, of North Aurora, and her 5-year-old son, Devon, were in the Toyota, which was found in a ditch on its side, police said.
Both had to be extricated from the car and were pronounced dead at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, police said. The boy was strapped into his car seat, police said.
Sara R. Brown, 25, of Batavia was driving the Explorer and was not injured.
