NIP - Notice of Intented Prosecution. The "You've been naughty, and we've gotcha" letter which asks you to cough as to who was driving. You don't have to. If you don't, you may well get a "We're going no further this time" letter, because the court system's overloaded. Alternatively, you may well get a court date. If you do reply that you were driving, the next step will probably be an FPN.
FPN - Fixed Penalty Notice. "Send us sixty quid, and your licence so we can scrawl on it."
MCN - MotorCycle News. Weekly publication renowned for being wrong about most things. If you read the NIP, many forces hear you asking for calibration certificates or the photos as you saying "No, I don't want an FPN, let's go straight to court, please".
