This is sore point with me! Often you'll see cops, not chasing anyone or responding to an urgent call, but "cruising" down the interstate at 85 per enforcement, I asked him about this. He told me it was "perk" of the job! Say WHAAAAAAAT? :( They don't ticket each other because of what they call "professional courtesy". GRRRRRRRR!
Then some of these head trip guys wonder why people don't "respect" them. I have turned officers IN for speeding for no apparent reason. I mean, here you are driving in your home county and here comes Bubba sheriff from the next county cruising by at 85 in a 60 and you KNOW he ain't on a call. There is NO call for this kind of sh-- and officers who cruise at high speed "just because they can" should be fired before they DO kill some innocent civilian. They are no better to break the law that they are sworn to uphold than anyone else and when they break said law they should be held to the same standard you and I are!
I was once almost end in this very same manner by an NCHP trooper. The road was new and one day I started up that road doing the speed limit (55). I came upon an old beat up pickup truck running about 45 or so, and I looked out my rearview and there was nothing there. No WAY could a car overtake me at normal speed. A few moments later, I glanced at the mirror and prepared to move into the left lane when WHOOOOOSH! The patrol car SHOOK my litttle S10 like a rag doll and was disappearing rapidly in the distance. He was doing 100+ if he was doin' a mile!! There were no exits from my position for the next 4 miles, no place for him to get off. I never saw the cop again, never overtook him with a car pulled over. No lights, no siren............nothing. The only thing that saved me from being dead was the fact that I was in no real hurry myself and I took the time to look in the mirror again. For if I hadn't prepared to look again and just moved over after the FIRST glance in the rearview (the way was clear under normal circumstances where a car would never overtake you so quickly). I could have buttumed that very thing and then moved over to pbutt. I would never have known what hit me. But I wouldn't be here to type this.. or so badly injured I would never have been the same.
I was so mad!! Since that day, I have and will report speeding cops and, believe it or not, because of complaints, many departments have insbreastuted policies against random speeding agreeing with the public that it is dangerous and counter to public relations with their departmenst. There have been a lot of complaints from the public, and *some* departments in my area have responded to it. I hope they BURN that Nevada trooper so he not only is not a cop, but never drives again! :( If he had a call the required silent running, he still may proceed at a quicker pace but not at such a speed as to endanger motorists. It *appears* that the Nevada cop was speeding excessively and, even if there were an urgent call, not exercizing due caution.
We all should report speeding cops. If there enough complaints from the public, it will make a difference. These goons need to be put off the road!
