Sorry Gringo? I don't buy that. The law is very clear. Don't steal. Cars are made with ignition locks in an attempt to deter theft. They used to just have a switch and a starter button. Then they used key locks. Then they incorporated steering wheel locks into the ignition locks. The law also requires that when you hear a siren and see a flashing red light you are required to pull over and stop. Knowing that the reason for the lights and siren is that they are after your is no excuse to take off.

And the kid in the stolen car was filled with what ? The cop was on the trail of a stolen car. He had the stolen car in sight. He had on his lights and siren, and that means the kid was caught. It was time for him to pull over and stop. It was not time for him to take off on a high speed chase.
I don't think it is asinine at all. If you don't want the cops to chase you car when it is stolen, please arrange to have some sort of distinctive marking on it so that that prospective thieves know that you don't mind if they get away with it. I want my car recovered. I want the bastard who stole it to go to jail. If he decides that he thinks he can outrun the cops I want them to catch the bastard and put him in jail for so long he will forget how to drive.
