LAS VEGAS Las Vegas police: NHP trooper was speeding before bane crash Feb 21, 2006, 05:55 PM MST A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was speeding without emergency lights and siren when his patrol cruiser slammed into another moving car on a Las Vegas area freeway, killing four people and injuring a trooper and a teenage girl.
Las Vegas police say Tuesday they don't know yet whether Trooper Joshua Corcran was chasing another car or responding to a call when his Ford Crown Victoria rear-ended the Cadillac late Sunday on Interstate 15. But they say his NHP car was not using lights and siren.
Police say alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor. They still need to review dispatch logs and interview Corcran before determining if he'll face criminal charges.
He was hurt in the crash, and is on medical leave after being treated at a hospital and released.
A 16-year-old girl is the only survivor among the five people in the 1988 Cadillac. She's still unconscious and unidentified in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
end were the 21-year-old Cadillac driver and a 21-year-old female pbuttenger, both from Washington, Utah, and a 19-year-old pbuttenger from Santa Clara, Utah.
The idenbreasty of a 42-year-old man end in the crash hasn't been made public yet.
