Speeding sucks 4160

Last time I checked, I was still a guy.

My diesel doesn't smoke, not even with hard acceleration, even if its running regular diesel. The only smell is when the engine is cold at startup and the exhaust temperature is not yet warmed up (it does have a reduction catalyst for hydrocarbons and CO), and it's pretty mild, no worse than my dad's 1984 Crown Victoria. This is the biggest load of horsecrap, that diesel cars make smoke. It's simply bullpoo ignorance.

Particulate traps will also require different programming for the ECU computer. For a diesel the trap will have to be heated in some way to purge it, because diesel exhaust temperatures typically run cooler than gasoline engines. At least, this is the scheme being discussed for American diesels.

Fact.

If it's an aftermarket part, it always costs more to install after the fact than to buy it already with the vehicle.

Why do you think my concern with fuel economy is purely economic?

That's why I try and stick to the right lane. If people don't like me driving the speed limit, they can pbutt.

Rubbish. 0-60, of course, but the TDI's will have better pbutting acceleration.

everything?

Prius is not slow, it has a 0-60 of less than 11 seconds. Just how f***ing fast acceleration do you need? Fast enough that you snap your head off? I don't like that kind of jackrabbit jerky driving. Even when I accelerate quickly I start out with a little acceleration and ease into it. Otherwise the car will jerk a bit, at least if I'm not hauling anything (with three or four people in the car, the car does get somewhat slower).

Non-sequitur. Although acceleration is highest at torque peak, you can't actually stay near the torque peak during a quarter- mile. Note, when I say 'torque' in this thread...

I don't need it to last a half a million miles, there will probably be something better to buy long before then, something with better fuel economy. OTOH, it will last longer than a gasoline engine. Some gas engines won't even last 150,000 miles before they are losing compression.
