Wrong again. The VW TDIs produce peak power around 4000rpm.
To achieve optimum acceleration you have to downshift both diesel and gasoline engine.
The best acceleration in almost any car is around peak power, i.e. you need to downshift to get optimum acceleration.
To achieve optimum acceleration the rpm must be in the area of maximum power, not maximum torque. That you don't know that is lamentable but only proves that you don't know how to drive a diesel.
I suggest you come here and try to merge from (just for example) Shoreline Blvd onto 101S. With your way of merging you either will be rearended by a guy in the right lane or you will have to brake to a stop and wait for ages until there is a gap large enough for you to merge into with your rolling roadblock.
No, what I am talking about qualifies as normal driving. That someone goes faster than you do (which almost every driver does) has nothing to do with agression. On the contrary, your cutting off other drivers with incompetent lane changes is agressive driving.
