Magnulus stinkpots if up?

It doesn't matter. The diesel-haters will hate no matter what the evidence.

Sloth turn lane confusion
Get this.... not too long ago I am on my way to work. I'm in the left lane of a 4 lane arterial. A woman turns on to the road in front of me...

Christian Huebner (C.H.) will make stuff up in order to denigrate diesels, as will some others in r.a.d. Hell, if the cars didn't have a TDI badge on the rear bumper, they'd never notice.

Here's some reality: TDIs smoke very little. You have to observe them directly during hard accel or start-up to notice any smoke. At operating temps, they smell very faintly of diesel. Even then, you have to be looking for it. They aren't noisy, except a little at start-up, and at idle. They do not have reliability-longevity problems, at least here in the U.S. They have been over here for 10 model years, and have been above average for reliability, according to several automotive sites. TDI cars work just fine around town and on the highway, and don't have any trouble keeping up with regular traffic. I wouldn't want one with a slushbox, but that's just me.

Stuff to keep in mind: TDIs need their regular timing belt change. If I had designed it, I'd've used a chain. A snapped belt will really kill the engine's longevity. :) In addition, the mbutt airflow sensor can get crudded up, and need replacing. Other than that, TDI works (and has worked) fine.

Finally, don't pay any attention to Chris. He flames because he has nothing better to do with his time, and because he knows he doesn't have anything to fear hiding behind his monitor. How do you argue with someone who thinks his opinion is fact? You can't. So why bother? You really need to learn more about driving and traffic engineering before presenting opinions. Read about the 85th percentile rule (search in this newsgroup for links) before you talk any more about speeding. It will be an education, I promise. Opinions from someone with very little driving experience in a driving newsgroup will be humor fodder, I can guarantee it.

Think about it.

Speeding sucks 4165
1) availability- lots of automatic TDI's now days, especially relatively new ones 2) traffic- don't want to fool with shifting...
