Scottish 'no license&insurance' helpHey folks, I think I know somebody who is driving alone on a provisional license, without insurance, or tax... I just wanted to 1) work out the best way to go...
You're baffling yourself with the science of the process, when there are simple checks that you can carry out yourself as I suggested to you in a reply I made in Part 2. Have you checked the amount of steering lock both ways? Something you can easily do yourself With the s-wheel in the position it is when the the car is travelling in a straight line. Regardless of any error in it's position, turn the s-wheel to full lock left and right. You should be able to guage whether the amount turned is equal both ways. If it is simply get the s-wheel reset as near as possible to it's correct position in the straight ahead position. If it's not near enough for you, ask the garage to make a slight adjustment on both track rods, to make it spot on. Job done.
If there is more than say 5-10 degrees difference in the lock both ways, the tracking needs to be redone with the rack in it's central position, and while it is central, the s-wheel should also be reset if necessary, adjusting the track rods slightly, if the s-wheel splines don't quite allow the s-wheel to to fit correctly.
At the rate you are going you'll never get it sorted. IMO you're wasting time and effort when it could be sorted within an hour at most. Tracking and setting the s-wheel in the correct position is hardly rocket science. Any competent DIYer can do the job with no special tooling at all. Mike.
