Please direct me to this particular RFC. The thing about many RFCs is that they were written *long* ago, in a time when animated GIFs were all the rage, all websites were statically created and 19.2k modems were fast. Connection speeds, usage patterns and user demographics have moved on considerably since then. So things have changed. In terms of usenet, this means that the practice of composing all your replies offline, once a day or so is *long* gone. Usenet can be a much faster, snappier experience where the post-reply-reply cycle can be mere minutes. Quoting for context can therefore be far less important - especially when the poster is simply replying to a single point or replying to the post as a whole. You don't quote someone before replying when using instant messenger (even in a multiparty conversation), and for people who use usenet in a similarly snappy fashion, context quoting and interleaved posting is similarly irrelevant.

It just depends on how people choose to use usenet. Times have changed guys, that's all.
If you found yourself in a group where top posting is the majority, would you follow suit and top-post? Honestly?
Hmm.. I guess it's escaped you that I'm *not* top posting. It's not my preference y'see.
