THINK! Don't Dazzle 1435

Even that won't work with my car. This has automatic lights than come on when it is dark or raining. It is only recently that I noticed the downside of this arrangement. Or one of them.

After turning the engine off the lights stay on for another 30 seconds before switching off.

I can override the lights to sidelights only, but not to lights off if it is dark. If I am leaving the car parked on the wrong side, I have the choice of either overriding to sidelights, which will then stay on until the battery goes flat, or leaving on automatic which measn the headlights will stay on for another 30 seconds or so before switching off automatically.

8) The circumstances referred to in paragraph (5)(c) are that- (a) the vehicle is parked on a road on which...

Overriding is unnatural anyway, shock horror, i might even have to touch the light switch. That would never do :-)

The easiest way is not to park on the wrong side, but if there are already 3 cars in my drive when I arrive home, I often end up parking on the verge facing the wrong way.

The other downside is that once you get used to automatic lights and drive a car that doesn't have them, you nearly always leave the lights on after parking. Mant cars will beep at you when you open the door, but not all.
