Trying to overtake the vehicles in Lane 2
Becaue that was the speed of the cars ahead of me in the same lane. If I drove slower I WOULD have been guilty of holding people up. You could equally ask why was anyone trying to pbutt me when i was already exceeding the legal lmit.
I was trying to maintain a safe stopping distance for my speed. If the distance is too small, I slow down until it isn't and match my speed to the vehicle ahead.
Yes. But the bike was obviously keen to travel even faster. Don't the limits apply to him too. In any case, the motorway speed limit is ridiculous. But until people learn that stopping distance, and hence safe following distance increases with speed, there is no hope of justifying an increase.
Sometimes, when it is safe to do so. But I am not the only one, and some do it when it isn't safe.
Absolutely! Many cars can travel safely at much higher speeds than that, given the right conditions. Tailgating, lane weaving, and changing lanes without proper use of mirrors are all more dangerous that exceeding the legal limit in a suitable vehicle in good conditions. If our lawmakers are not concerned about REAL dangerous driving, preferring to use peoples concern as a means to raise taxation by penalising safe drivers, whay should I take anything they say about road safety seriously?
Well, if you are going faster than everyone else, at least you won't get shunted from behind! :-)
Tailgating through traffic lights 5148Indeed! But that is what it takes to stop comfortably. This shows that most motorway drivers are not following the basic rule that you should always be able to stop in the distance you...
