What do you do when you are going through lights with a tailgater? I had one a few days ago which was REALLY close, and I didn't know what to do. I was expecting the lights to change very soon, and I didn't want to brake... well at all really. I went slower, and then had to brake fairly firmly for the lights, and used the cycle advance lane to make it softer.
If I had driven at a normal speed then I would have probably made it over on this occasion. The problem is that when they are driving that close it seems that no speed is going to be slow enough because it's impossible for people to react in such a short space.
A few weeks ago I had a very similar problem, but at a much slower speed. We were at some lights which only let 2 or 3 cars over, so I didn't want to go too slow, but I knew that they could change any second. I only managed to get into 2nd gear moving slowly because we were pulling away from rest, and then the lights changed. I braked, and the old people almost lots their teeth lol. In this case, after the lights changed I looked at the old people in my mirror, and there was no reaction at all until I started braking.
What do you do in these situations because you don't want to hold traffic up, and you can't let them overtake?
