Hiya,
My usual car broke down last week on the motorway (timing belt snapped!) and I can't afford to get it fixed or get a 2nd hand engine put into it yet, so what I've done is bought a stolen recovered car from a local salvage yard which just needed a new ignition barrel thingie ma bob and had two slashed tyres. I HPI'd it to see if it was Cat C or D (the guy at scrap yard thought Cat C) or even not recorded and the report says that it is reported as a theft by an insurance company (but not the police) but didn't say what category it was all that was left blank. I phoned the DVLA and they said it didn't require a VIC check, (so I'm thinking it not Cat C) and I can go ahead and send that form in V62? and then wait for a V5 in my name. When I input the reg number into that DVLA enquiry it says the car is taxed til Feb 06 and in the car it says MOT Feb 2006 although I haven't got any of these documents. Anyhow, the HPI check report said they will enquire with the insurance company to see about the reported stolen thing- can they say that the car still belongs to them and not the salvage yard? This salvage yard had hundreds of cars supposedly from insurance companies. Anyway, my real question is, can I get the car re MOT'ed like now even though technically it has an MOT cert and swap my insurance over to this new car? Can I get done for driving whislt 'not displaying a tax disc' even though the computer systems say it is already taxed?
