Management want to restructure things which means a £5k paycut.

Plenty of HGV jobs. Regional variations though. You can investigate the pay for yourself - www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk . Compare it to the pay for jobs in the level of work you think we do.
Conditions vary depending on the type of work you do and the company you work for.
As a self employed driver I charge £10 basic, £15 O-T, £20 Sunday, £30 Bank Holiday - around 40% above the average hourly rates for drivers around here, enough to keep me happy and in plenty of work. I do mainly tankers and fridge work for a national company so it's fairly easy work in decent motors with not much rushing about and home pretty much every day. Their own drivers are on £24k for a 4 day 48hr week but runs are arranged so they do less than that. My mate drives for Hygena and gets £32k for a 4 day week but has to unload 24-48 tonnes of flatpack a day and it's all chasing about.
