Ok, we're not talking quite as much money as a "high value" car, but they're all depreciating buttets that most people will happily spend a good few grand on, all in all.

It's all relative to how much genuinely "spare money" you've got. I might consider spending 5 or 6 figure sums on a car if I could genuinely afford to spare that sort of cash and not expect to see any of it back. Ok, if you buy wisely a lot of cars retain a lot of their value, but on anything of that sort of value you're still looking at losing a lot, and it only converts back to cash when you come to sell it on. If I had £2 million in the bank that I could genuinely consider to be spare cash (i.e. all my other outgoings were covered by some form of income or money put to one side to cover them), then I *might* consider splashing out £100k or so on a car. But only if it was something I *really* wanted, and it was good value for what it was.
