The Cascading MFFY Effect 3488Sharon You're kidding, right? I commute from Bowie to Sterling (so I'm familiar with the area you describe) and my description of the drivers in this area would be...
This is probably a good idea, but I'm not sure if they'd do it. It's only a problem between 5:15pm and 6:30pm on weeknights, and all the rest of the time the traffic levels are normal. The weird thing is that there's no morning equivalent. Clearly all the businesses in the area are letting out at the same time each night, but they don't seem to require their employees to report at the same time in the morning. It's a good illustration to employers why they need to allow flexible working hours and even telecommuting. Seriously, it's like school letting out and all the kids pouring out the front doors, but they're all in cars. At any rate, we do have a back entrance that I try to always use during this time. But that night I forgot and got stuck. (Once you're in the driveway exit there's no turning around or backing out.) I'm used to the people blocking the "intersection", but that was the first time people behind me went MFFY and went around me like a rock in a stream. I *really* enjoyed that first jerk who went around and nearly kissed the other car turning left INTO our lot at the same time. (not)
Yeah, we're so close to the main intersection that it would really mess things up. We have a few spots along this street with light-controlled intersections too close together, and it really hoses things up during the evening commutes.
Heh, I know. I didn't mention that I drive a Dodge Dakota, so I'm not exactly a tiny pebble in the road. I love my truck, though, which is why I don't drive toooo aggressively and smash it up. (The jerk who first pbutted me from behind was a larger truck than mine, which always goes to prove there's always someone bigger (and more obnoxious) than you...)
