Well, out here on the highway, 301 in Virginia, if the kids were to get to some off-highway pickup point, they either have to be driven by their parents, or walk along the roadway, because there just aren't many sidewalks in the country.
I was buzzing down 301 last year and pbutted an empty flatbed truck. Next thing I know, there's a school bus stopped - dunno where it came from, or why it was a surprise, but it was a surprise. I immediately got in the left lane to be able to pbutt it when the lights on the bus quit flashing, and stopped. Next thing after that was the flatbed truck hauling-butt by me on the right, with wheels locked up and hopping, blue smoke rolling off them, and stopping about 10 ft. short of that bus. If I hadn't changed lanes, I'd have been about like those kids in Florida. That was close. My own natural propensity to be in a hurry worked for me - if I'd have just been OK with waiting behind the bus, I'd be real busted up probably even yet.
Yeah, I think that's a normal way that it works.
