I didn't leave, but if you had encountered the Observer I had for my first drive I think you would have been a bit shocked, and indeed the Chief Observer I was out with on Thursday made it quite clear that the correct procedure had not been followed in my case.
What should have happened was that I should have been asked to drive the first half of the session in my normal style. This would inevitably have revealed a number of faults in relation to the IAM standard, but it would also have enabled good points (if any) to emerge. An overall view of the standard of my driving could then have been formed. Instead of that, all I got was an instant demolition job, which in any event is not how a new buttociate should be treated.
Whether you or Mark or Silk care to recognise it, the fact is that I received a very favourable report by the Chief Observer last Thursday. That was quite pleasing for the moment, but that is all, and I have already said that further work needs to be done before I could face an IAM test with a high level of confidence. In the meantime there is no tangible evidence that I am actually any less safe that you three, so go and have your apopletic fits if that's how you feel, and then we'll see if we can make some sense of each other a bit later.
Best wishes all, Dave.
