The IAM and TripleS a reconciliation 387TripleS Do you need qualifications to state your opinion on *anything*? Surely that's the point of an opinion? But since you ask,and since it does affect the weight that should be given to...
I thought it rather conceited for the Observer to say that he was 'one of the better ones' - and that is exactly what he said. His implied criticism of his fellow Observers was not very nice in any event, even if he was truly brilliant himself, and from what I saw of him I would say he was not well placed to judge fairly.
At no time have I ever claimed to be good, Mark is quite wrong about that. All I have ever done is say what I believe to be right and reasonable, what I generally do now, what I have done in the past, what I try to do, and what the results seem to have been. Rightly or wrongly I generally feel comfortable and confident about driving, and I fail to see what is wrong with that.
I don't profess to understand psychology, but I'm inclined to feel that Mark suffers from some kind of inferiority complex, hence this frequent need to thump the table (in a manner of speaking) and ram his views down our throats, accompanied by general abuse which does nothing to reinforce the merits of what he's saying. Perhaps in due course he'll go away again, or learn to offer his views in a civilised manner and show some respect for differing views. I hope he'll do the latter.
Best wishes all, Dave.
