I think that in that brief paragraph you've hit the nail sqaurely on the head. I've read this thread (and those like it) and it's concentrated largely on the minutiae of the "mechanics" of driving - "shuffling" the wheel or otherwise, braking in corners, changing gear and turning etc etc... But there's been bugger-all mention of the bits that really differentiate a "safe" driver from the rest - observation anticipation and judgement.
You can travel with people who consider themselves "safe" because they drive exactly to "the book" in terms of the mechanics of the exercise but who are truly terrible drivers, kept from destruction by a combination of providence and evasive action by their fellow road users. Equally, there are those like "TripleS" who manage to remain accident-free and are able to progress swiftly and smoothly whilst not following "the book" to the letter.
As I see it, there's not one absolute "proper way to drive", "The Method" or "The System" should really be renamed "A Method" and "A System" - because there's more than one way of "advanced" driving, though none of them work without observation, anticipation etc.
