Yes fair enough Ray, you have pbutted advanced tests and I have not, but tests are of short duration and might not be indicative of the standard achieved consistently by a driver, and if the standard is not maintained then in effect that driver may not be any better than those who have not pbutted the tests.
I hope I didn't actually say that. What I'm thinking is that it should all be *considered* but it may not all need to be enacted (for want of a better word) at all times - i.e. use the flexibility that is supposed to be there.
Yes I'm sure it is, but in due course the good luck will run out and then the poor driving will be revealed. I think it is very unlikely that good luck alone will see anyone get through a long driving career completely unscathed.
Yes, I agree completely with that.
The IAM and TripleS a reconciliation 402Yes, your journey is important - just the same as the hospital workers trying to get to the hospital to fit the frigging thing, but stuck behind a 5 mile overtake. When I was...
Yes, I can also accept that to some extent, but what about the normal learner driver who is taught to drive to a certain standard and pbutt the test, and then - as if so often complained about - gets lazy, sloppy and acquires all the bad habits. How sure can we be that the same slippage will not happen with quite a lot of advanced drivers?
Yes I appreciate that you have put in a lot of effort for your new career, and I wish you every success with it, but I don't think I have ever claimed to have a style that is *better* than Roadcraft. It was more a case of suggesting that I have a style that gives a result that is not inferior to a rigid application of Roadcraft.
Yes it is right to consider all parts of the system, and I don't think I have suggested otherwise. Once again, you have no means of knowing to what extent I have avoided shunts purely by luck. You might have been aided by luck to a similar degree. In fact I do seem to recall you making reference to one or two near misses (but correct me if I'm wrong, I don't wish to accuse you unfairly) apart from the unfortunate speed camera incident, and I do sympathise with you in that case. So far as speeding is concerned I have indeed been very lucky not to get caught, so far :-) there is no question about that.
So far as anyone possibly benefitting from my contributions is concerned, the main thing I sought was acceptance by bodies such as the IAM that there was the possibility of picking up some detailed elements from outsiders that could add something useful to the existing stock of knowledge on the subject of driving. That really has been the essence of it all the way along. It just never seemed right to me that all the initiatives and progress would necessarily emerge from within the ranks of the existing experts.
I know you have been somewhat outraged by certain things I've said Ray, but thanks for a civilised discussion all the same.
Best wishes all, Dave.
