Hello, what, in your opinion, is the most serious driving simulation computer game (for PC)? I'm looking for a game that was developed with attention to actual physical behavior of cars. I remember that in my early teens I used to play a game called "Need for Speed" - its first issue was apparently supported by some serious analysis on car physics.
Need For Speed and most other racing games are designed for good gameplay, not physical modeling. In spite of such claims as "improved physics" or "accurate physics", these games stray so far from realistic calculations that these claims mean nothing.
Commercial good sim engines are: * the older Grand Prix Legends (aka GPL), simulates 1967 F1 cars * Nascar racing 2003 (NR2K3). Good online racing, plus mods * EA's F1 Challenge (aka F1C); F1C's core models 1999-2002 F1 cars * Live For Speed (LFS, www.liveforspeed.com) is an indy project and is well worth the money. F1C and N2K3 are especially good for modifications.
For free sims, there are several * Racer (www.racer.nl) - a labor of love and an excellent implementation of many aspects of physical modeling. Cars and tracks are fully customizable and are constantly developed. * NetKar is a solid simulator, but appears idle w.r.t. development. * other sims of various quality
* rec.autos.simulators (RAS)

Have fun.
