I think a 'good' driver takes into account the environment around them as they are driving and...

The posted limit was arbitrarily increased by 10 mph since that time. Obviously, by your reasoning, travelling at today's posted limit was not safe 10 years ago.

There wasn't much traffic at the time in question.

These days, I have a RD and drive the same stretch at 80 mph. Most other people drive between 70 and 75 mph. I don't think that 60 mph was a reasonable speed by any stetch of the imagination.

I doubt it. My RD warning justifies my supposition.

Engaging in dangerou driving affecting other drivers in the name of revenue enhancement is not justified. Though I drive fast, I don't pull out in front of other vehicles and I don't slam on the brakes in front of traffic either.

If that type of driving isn't considered unsafe (because the officer is using his overhead lights), then I don't see how those who argued against the NJ officers' actions in the original article have any justification for their position.

So you're saying that in 1996, driving on US 460 W just past the WV-VA border near Glen Lyn at 65 mph was unsafe, but in 1997, it was?
